Elements and Principle Photos

Picture Presentation

Description:

Go on a scavenger hunt to find and take pictures to find the elements and principals of design in everyday life. Then create a presentation that shows all the elements and principals of art. This presentation shows examples of lines, shapes, texture, space, value, color, balance, rhythm and movement, contrast, unity and variety, emphasis, and pattern.

Extension Activity: Students could add on to this project by creating a story or writing a paragraph on why they chose the picture. This can incorporate writing and imagination as it allows students to be creative and develop a story behind one of their pictures. It could also be used as a narrative or a life experience students had.

Footprint Introductions

 Description:

This project is a great way to allow students to be creative and introduce themselves to the class. They start with their own footprint and then add other designs and symbols that they think represent themselves. Students will need to write their names, use three different mediums (markers, crayons, beads, construction paper), and have a cohesive design. For example, I made a chef's hat because I like to bake. I also colored a popcorn bucket because I love to watch movies with my family and friends.

Extension Activity:

One way to extend this activity is to talk about other important symbols. When I was student teaching in a first grade classroom, they had a unit on important symbols in the United States. This art project would be a great way to introduce students to what symbols are and how they represent things. Students would understand what symbols are and be able to apply that knowledge into the new social studies unit.

Clay Tic Tac Toe Boards

Activity:  Students began by wedging the clay and then rolling out to a thin layer. They then cut out the shape of their tic tac toe board....
